The mission of the Delaware Museum of Natural History is to excite and inform people about the natural world through exploration and discovery, in order to develop a caring society that respects and values our planet. Along with permanent displays of dinosaurs, birds, mammals, and shells, the Museum also hosts up to three traveling exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum offers educational outreach programs for schools, community organizations, and libraries. Museum Educators bring samples from the mollusk, bird, insect, reptile, and mammal collections offsite, and provide programs that encompass a variety of natural history related themes and concepts, and can be geared toward all ages. With collections housing over 117,000 bird specimens, and over 36,000 clutches, the Museum has the second largest collection of birds’ eggs in North America. And with over 220,000 lots of mollusks, the shell collection is ranked among the top ten in the United States.
