Located on the campus of The Webb Schools, the Raymond M. Alf Museum is the only paleontology museum in the nation located on a high school campus. The Museum’s mission is to serve Southern California as an educational resource, to act as a center of paleontological research for the international scientific community, and to provide a unique curricular ingredient for The Webb Schools. Home to the world's largest collection of fossilized footprints, spanning every geological era, and includes several mounted dinosaur skeletons, the fossil collections consist of 44,000 vertebrate, 14,000 invertebrate, 2,000 plant, and 700 trackway & footprint specimens. In addition, the museum maintains non-fossil collections including rocks and minerals and archaeological artifacts. The museum offers Webb students the opportunity to learn about paleontology, geology and museum studies through hands-on research. The facility also houses the physics, chemistry, and biology labs for the Webb Schools, and a fossil preparation workshop. The Museum hosts an annual Fossil Fest, celebrating the excitement of paleontology through hands-on learning for visitors of all ages, as well as an after school enrichment program called Become a Junior Paleontologist. Adult classes are available, as are Classroom Connections traveling presentations.
